Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vintage 1990

Our vintages : Châteauneuf du Pape

The AOC Châteauneuf-du-Pape is one of the most beautiful AOCs in the Rhone Valley. It is famous for its red wines but also offers magnificent white wines. Quality has no price! This is why on each vintage all the grape varieties planted in our plots allow us to best express the terroir that is ours.

The years follow and are similar. After 1988 and 1989, the vineyard of Châteauneuf du Pape benefited from very good climatic conditions.

The dry and mild winter produced a confirmed precocity throughout the phenological stages. Budding occurred around March 14 and flowering began on May 9. This still very delicate stage was followed by a rainy period (134 mm in May) particularly beneficial in view of the drought that was to follow.

From 30 May and for 2 months, the vineyard will enjoy exceptional warmth and sunshine. A first rain on August 14 and a second on August 30 will put an end to this period of persistent drought and give the vines the necessary freshness to bring the grapes to optimum maturity. From there, a dry weather and a constant mistral will accelerate the process of concentration.

On September 10, the official beginning of the harvest, the grapes are in a perfect sanitary condition. The fleshy berries and thick skins announce powerful wines, intense colors, fragrances and deep aromas. The latter are associated with an impressive tannic power. The opinions are already unanimous to consider the 1990 vintage as a vintage of great guard.

The white wines are both structured and round in the mouth, while presenting a range of aromatic nuances quite surprising. There is also a lot of fat and full that ensure a very long persistence in the mouth.

As a result of optimum concentration, the yield of the 1990 harvest will be slightly lower than in 1989.
