Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vintage 1993

Our vintages : Châteauneuf du Pape

The terroir of Châteauneuf du Pape has once again demonstrated its exceptional ability to dominate the vagaries of nature.

1993 will be a good vintage for Châteauneuf du Pape wines.

The vegetative cycle took place in very good conditions. The winter was dry with two periods of fairly sharp cold for the region in early January and early March.

The bud break occurred late in early April. The wet and windy spring helped to ensure that the soil was well supplied with water without affecting the sanitary condition. The vegetation developed harmoniously. At flowering, the delay observed at the beginning of the cycle was made up. It lasted from May 25 to June 10 with very little coulure.

The heat of summer has gradually arrived, with a month of July without too much temperature and a month of August 4° to 5° warmer than the seasonal normal. A long period without rains from 11 July to 24 August allowed a good evolution of maturity favored by the water reserves accumulated in spring. As of September 1st, the vineyard presents a perfect sanitary state.

The bulk of the harvest (grenache variety) began on September 13 with some exceptions for early grape varieties (white and syrah). White wines are generally harvested early, have a good balance and a lot of fat.

The reds have benefited from the beautiful quality of the grapes, and present intense colors, with a beautiful richness in tannin. The aromas are for the moment discrete with notes of red fruit. On the palate, elegance dominates a particularly harmonious whole.

This vintage will satisfy delicate palates.
